This program prepares audiology practitioners who are well-grounded in the basic sciences; provide didactic coursework and supervised clinical practicum experiences necessary to enable students to develop competencies in the areas outlined by ASHA (Foundations of Practice, Prevention and Identification, and Evaluation and Treatment), and expose students to research in an effort to develop skills that will allow them to use evidence-based approaches to clinical practice. Students completing the Au.D. program will have met the course and practicum requirements set by ASHA for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology and for New York State licensure.

Students should have completed either a phone or in-person interview before being admitted. They should have earned a bachelor's degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) in the last 60 semester credits of their undergraduate degree. If students have a master's or a doctoral degree, a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their graduate work is required. In addition, students are required to obtain a combined score of 800 in the verbal and quantitative sections on the Graduate Record Examination taken within the last 5 years. International students must have graduated from colleges or universities that are recognized by the national educational authorities of their home countries. Students from Canada need to have a three-year bachelor's degree from Quebec or a four-year bachelor's degree from the other provinces. Students from Latin America should have a university degree requiring four years of study. Students from France and other countries following the French system must have a degree or diploma requiring four years of study after the baccalaureate (usually the maitrise). Students from Germany must have completed a diploma. Students from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal are required to have a bachelor's degree in engineering or a master's degree in any other field. Students from other Asian and European countries need to have a university degree requiring four years of study. Students from United Kingdom and countries following the British pattern should possess a bachelor's degree with honors. International students must have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 105 or higher on the internet-based exam.
