For more than 100 years, The University of Texas Dental Branch (UTDB) at Houston has set the standard for oral health excellence by educating outstanding dentists and dental hygienists, discovering new oral health advancements and caring for the citizens of Texas. In 2009, the Dental Branch began construction of a new, state-of-the-art dental school in The UT Research Park on the south campus of the Texas Medical Center. The UT Health Science Center at Houston has committed $155 million to the project from State, UT System and local sources. Philanthropic opportunities have been created to help complete and equip the new building and provide funds for growth in endowments, scholarships, research and community outreach. This expansion mirrors and supports the growth of dentistry and dental science. Founded in 1905 as the privately owned Texas Dental College, the Dental Branch was the first dental school in Texas and the first professional school in Houston. The school became part of the UT System in 1943 and eventually was renamed The University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston. In 1945, the UT System Board of Regents authorized the creation of the School of Dental Hygiene as part of the Dental Branch. The first hygiene class was admitted in 1955. The Dental Branch is housed in a 54-year-old, six-floor building located within the Texas Medical Center. Features include basic science laboratories, lecture rooms, an auditorium, a library and learning resources center, a clinical simulation and learning center, a surgical oral pathology laboratory, a faculty practice clinic, faculty offices, clinics, administrative offices, and service and mechanical areas. The building also accommodates clinical research and continuing education.

University Housing provides a well maintained quality living environment to promote the academic success of students, faculty, and staff of UTHSC-H, BCM, and M. D. Anderson Cancer Center at two different complex locations both in the Medical Center. University Housing consists of two unique apartment communities. The 7900 Cambridge complex was built in 1982 and offers first and second floor units in one, two and three bedroom floor plans. The 1885 El Paseo property, which was built in 2005, is a contemporary style living environment with four floors of one and two bedroom apartments with a four story parking garage located in the middle of the complex. All students, staff and faculty of the UT Health Science Center, Baylor College of Medicine and M. D. Anderson Cancer Center are encouraged to apply. Amenities include 24-hour quality maintenance, a commons room, and swimming pool, with close proximity to the Child Development Center, the Recreation Center, and the UTHSC-H shuttle. Each apartment is carpeted and comes equipped with an all-electric kitchen. The El Paseo property offers washers and dryers in each apartment. The Cambridge property offers coin operated washers and dryers housed in three laundry rooms. Access to both properties is controlled by a 24-hour guard.
