The University of Texas Medical Branch is established in 1891. The 84-acre campus includes four schools, three institutes for advanced study, a major medical library, a network of hospitals and clinics that provide a full range of primary and specialized medical care, an affiliated Shriners Burns Hospital, and numerous research facilities. It is a component of the University of Texas System. The mission of the University is to provide scholarly teaching, innovative scientific investigation, and state-of-the-art patient care in a learning environment to better the health of society. The education programs enable the state’s talented individuals to become outstanding practitioners, teachers, and investigators in the health care sciences, thereby meeting the needs of the people of Texas and its national and international neighbors. The comprehensive primary, specialty, and sub-specialty care clinical programs support the educational mission and are committed to the health and well-being of all Texans through the delivery of state-of-the-art preventive, diagnostic, and treatment services. The programs are committed to the discovery of new innovative biomedical and health services knowledge leading to increasingly effective and accessible health care for the citizens of Texas.

The University offers on campus housing with low rent and facilities that are conveniently located within walking distance of all Medical Branch buildings. It provides clean and spacious suites in dormitories that provide a productive atmosphere for studies and a comfortable environment where students can relax. Suites have two air-conditioned bedrooms and a connecting bathroom. Each room will accommodate one student. Each room is furnished with two beds, dressers, a refrigerator, and built-in desks. There is a color television set located in each of the dormitory lounges.
