This program is a provider of direct health care services. Within this role, the ANP synthesizes theoretical, scientific, and contemporary clinical knowledge for the assessment and management of both health and illness states. The population in adult primary care practice includes adolescents and young, middle, and older adults. The particular expertise of the adult primary care nurse practitioner emphasizes disease prevention, health promotion, and the management of patients with acute and chronic multi-system health problems. Delivering patient care with respect to cultural and spiritual beliefs and making health care resources available to patients from diverse cultures is an important role component. Most adult nurse practitioners practice in primary care settings, which include general and specialty practices. The ANP provides consultation, collaboration, continuing education, certification, and evaluation. Upon entry into practice, the adult nurse practitioner demonstrates competence in the categories of health promotion, health protection, disease prevention, and diagnostics. Graduates will sit for the Adult Nurse Practitioner certification examination.

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for admission: bachelor of science in nursing (with certification) from an accredited college or university with an overall undergraduate grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (3.5 for graduate work), current RN license in the United States, college-level Chemistry with grade of “C” or better, college-level Statistics with grade of “C” or better. International students must have one of the following requirements: minimum TOEFL score of 84 (internet-based; minimum of 23 in reading and listening; 17 in speaking; and 21 in writing), 560 (paper-based; minimum of 56 in each section) and 173 (computer-based); IELTS with an overall band score of 5.0; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) score of 80 (minimum of 80 in each section); Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE).
