This program aims to provide students with a high level of nursing expertise, as well as enhance their professional leadership skills. The program stresses the integration of research and nursing practice with a strong emphasis on solving real-world problems. This program advances professional nursing roles in clinical practice and nursing leadership and management. It is designed to increase clinical competency, refine critical-thinking skills, and develop stronger decision-making and evaluative abilities. A clinical research project immerses students in a practice environment, and lays the foundation for future scholarship and success in the local, national, and global nursing community.

Students must forward transcripts from all colleges and universities attended in their original sealed envelopes. Official transcripts from institutions outside the U.S. must be accompanied by an official transcript evaluation from an accredited independent evaluating agency. The request must be a detailed evaluation that includes all course titles, credit hours, grades, U.S. degree equivalency, grade-point averages (GPA), and date of degree conferral. An essay of 500 to 750 words which describe the following: academic and career goals and a discussion of how the D.N.P. program will contribute to these goals, and a discussion of a major issue in contemporary nursing and how this issue should be addressed. Students must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing program with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher OR a Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing program with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher in one of the following areas: Adult Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner or Nursing Leadership and Management. Students will be required to have an interview (either by telephone or in person) with faculty to discuss career goals and previous experience in nursing (to be arranged by the department admissions committee).
