In this program, the students are required to take a total of 42 hours of credit course work beyond the M.A of which at least 32 must be taken within the Department. Students in Classical Archaeology are required to have a good reading knowledge of both Greek and Latin. This requirement is satisfied by passing with a grade of B or better a course numbered 75o0 or higher in both Greek and Latin, and a second course at this level in the language more closely related to the major. The students have to take a Comprehensive examination, Dissertation and Final examination.

The modules includes Greek Art and Archaeology, Roman Art and Archaeology, Late Medieval Art, Renaissance Art, Architectural History and Historic Preservation.

The applicant should have a Master's degree in arts and archaeology with a grade point average of 3.0 or better on the last 60 hours of undergraduate work, official transcripts, three (3) letters of recommendation and a current resume. Students from countries where English is not the native language are required to take the TOEFL and must achieve any of the following minimum total scores in paper-based test, 530 with a score of 52 in Section 1 (Listening Comprehension), computer-based test, a score of 197 or the internet-based test, a score of 71.

The faculty and staffs in this department reflect the widening scope of discipline with particular strengths in the areas of classical Mediterranean archaeology, medieval and Renaissance art, and the art and architecture of modern Europe and the Americas. Current faculty research interests range from early Greece and Rome to modern architecture and contemporary painting.

Manor House Apartments are available to graduate and professional students over the age of 21 without children. Students can apply to live in one of 38 studio apartments, 6 one-bedroom apartments and 29 two-bedroom apartments. At Manor House students have all the advantages of living on campus with the privacy of an apartment and the convenience of being near downtown Columbia. Each apartment contains a kitchen unit with an electric range, refrigerator, and garbage disposal. Apartments are carpeted and unfurnished. The monthly rental rate includes water, sewer, gas, basic cable, and local phone bills. Apartments are individually metered, enabling residents to make their own arrangements with utility companies. The resident pays the electric bill. University Heights, University Terrace, and University Village Apartment complexes offer safe, affordable, and family-friendly housing for students with families and a limited number of single graduate students. Although floor plans vary, all apartments include living room, kitchen, bath, and one or two bedrooms. All are unfurnished except for stoves and refrigerators.
