This program is at the interface of quantitative sciences, medicine, and biology, and thus by its nature, highly interdisciplinary. The graduate program trains graduate students in the development and applications of computational methods and to work in interdisciplinary teams of life scientists and computational scientists. The program offers industrial and clinical internships and training in business leadership, technology management, and ethics to prepare students for the workplace. In addition, the program provides a mentoring program for students and junior faculty that will serve as a model for interdisciplinary graduate education. The Minor addresses the needs of the rapidly increasing user group that includes graduate students in the life and health sciences, physical and chemical sciences, and engineering and computer sciences.

Students must have strong background in the quantitative sciences and varied backgrounds in the life/health sciences and should have taken courses at the undergraduate level prior to entering the program: Calculus (one year), Introductory computer science course and basic programming skills (one semester), Chemistry (one year),General biology course (one semester),In addition students are expected to have background in either two of the areas: Multivariable calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, Algorithms and data structure, discrete mathematics, Statistics or biostatistics; probability theory, Biochemistry, genetics and cell biology, Health sciences (pharmacology, physiology, or related areas). The operational standard for admission to the Graduate School is a score of at least 79 on the Internet based TOEFL with section scores of 21 on writing and 19 on reading (550 on the paper based TOEFL), or a score of 6.5 on the IELTS or 80 on the MELAB.
