This program is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge of the theoretical and applied aspects of the student. The objective of this program is to enhance this background by providing more advanced course work, along with insight into state-of-the-art problems and new research areas. It is predicated on students having developed a strong technical background in basic electrical and computer engineering through work in undergraduate courses. The emphasis of this program lies in the analysis, design, implementation, optimization, and application of computing systems. The areas in which graduate students typically pursue their advanced studies, via course offerings and independent research, include the following: VLSI design and testing, computer-aided design and electronic design automation, low power design, application specific instruction set processors (ASIP), computer architecture, computer systems, fault-tolerant and reliable computing, reconfigurable computing, embedded systems, storage systems, distributed systems, networking, communications, digital signal processing, sensor networks, mobile computing.

Students must hold a bachelor’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing with a grade point average of 3.0 for the entire undergraduate record. There are no specific minimum scores on the quantitative, verbal, and analytical parts of GRE. A high score, especially on the quantitative part, shall improve the competitiveness of their application. Students should have the minimum score of 550 (written test) or 213 (computer-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at the University of Connecticut emphasizes excellence in education and research. Due to favorable relative numbers of faculty and students, individual students receive personal attention. All Electrical and Computer Engineering courses are taught by their faculty. In May 2003, the ECE department moved into the new Information Technology Engineering building, providing a world-class educational environment for our students. This bright, beautiful building houses attractive study areas, a new learning center, and excellent instructional and research laboratories.

University provides on campus housing at the following residence halls for graduate students at the following places: Graduate Residences; The Graduate Residences contain single rooms for graduate students and older undergraduates. Centrally located on campus, the Graduate Residences consist of three buildings in a coeducational complex that contains 440 carpeted, single rooms. These buildings are subdivided into 16 halls with no more than ten students sharing a bathroom on a floor. These residences provide year-round housing including breaks between semesters and holidays. Northwood Apartments; The Northwood Apartments complex is located on Northwood Road, just off of North Eagleville Road on the western perimeter of the University of Connecticut campus. Northwood Apartments provides housing for graduate students in two-bedroom apartments and also accommodates graduate students with families. Some undergraduate students may also be housed in two-bedroom apartments. Hilltop Apartments; The Hilltop Apartments are home to 964 undergraduate and graduate students. While primarily serving the undergraduate student population there are a number of apartments available for graduate students. The complex is comprised of thirteen, three story buildings and a Community Center. There are a variety of living options available ranging from four person, two person, and one person efficiency apartments. University also provides on campus housing for the undergraduate students at the following residence halls; Alumni Quadrangle, Buckley, Charter Oak Apartments, Alan Thacker Busby Suites (formerly Charter Oak Suites), East Campus, Hilltop Residence Halls, Hilltop Apartments, Harry Lucian Garrigus Suites (formerly Hilltop Suites), Husky Village, Mansfield Apartments, McMahon Hall, Northwest - Freshmen Only, North Campus, Shippee - Freshmen Only, South Campus, Towers Quadrangle, West Campus.
