This program offered in the study of bacteriology, immunology, parasitology and virology. Course work is selected jointly by the student and his/her major advisor, with the advice of the individual graduate advisory committee, to suit the student's background, interests and research problem. Formal course work may be selected from offerings within the Department of Pathobiology and from other departments within the University. Courses in general biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, microbial pathogenesis, statistical methods, bacteriology, virology and other discipline-based courses are often selected as part of individual plans of study. Assistance in preparation for Board Certification for the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine is available.

Students should have a baccalaureate degree and comprehensive training in the biological sciences, including bacteriology, epidemiology, immunology, laboratory and experimental medicine, parasitology, public health, toxicology, and virology.Students should have a Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average: 3.0 or equivalent required for unconditional admission. Graduate Record Examination (GRE): Required -- Total score (all three sections) of 1600 or better for unconditional admission. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Subject Test: Not required, Biology recommended. TOEFL for Non-Native English Speakers: Minimum Paper-Based Test (PBT) Score Required: 575; Minimum Computer-Based Test (CBT) Score Required: 233; Minimum Internet-Based Test (IBT) Overall Score Required: 77. With the following minimum section requirements: Reading: 19, Listening: 14, Speaking: 18, Writing: 18. IELTS (Academic Module): An alternative to the TOEFL, scores of 6.5 or higher will be accepted. TWE for Non-Native English Speakers: Minimum Score Required: 5 for unconditional admission.

Comparative Pathobiology is the study of disease phenomena basic to all species including humans, at the molecular, cellular, organismal and ecosystem level. The faculty, staff and students are involved in research and learning in a variety of areas including pathology, infectious diseases and vaccines, cancer biology, nanomedicine, toxicology, disease surveillance and human-animal interactions. The goal of the research is to discover and test new technologies for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease in animals and people. The Department offers a rigorous yet flexible graduate program in a stimulating learning environment through formal courses, seminars, journal clubs and one-on-one interactions with productive and highly motivated scientists. Collaborations with faculty in other departments and institutes at Purdue University and the Indiana University School of Medicine create excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary research and training. The Department of Comparative Pathobiology also engages in diagnostic and outreach activities that serve the welfare of animals, people and the environment in the State of Indiana and beyond.

Purdue University provides the on campus housing for students with many housing options like University Residences, Cooperative housing, Fraternities, sororities, off-campus apartments and houses. Living in the University Residences provides students with many opportunities to develop their leadership abilities and they strive to provide a safe environment. Residences provide the facilities such as Bulletin Boards, Check-Cashing and ATMs, Copy Machine, Laundry and Vending, Mailing, Repairs and Maintenance. The Room/Apartment provides the Beds, Mattress and mattress pad/cover, Curtains, Desk with lamp and chair, Dresser, Closet and drawer space, Trash can Smoke detector, Telephone, All utilities and local telephone service, Internet outlets, Cable television outlet and services. The Residences has the Dining Services which provides a variety of convenient options offering delicious, nutritious food. Students choose from a number of dining locations that are close to class or home. They can choose to dine buffet style in the dining courts, take out from an On-the-Go or grab a bite from the late-night restaurants or mini-marts. University Residences offers a variety of meal plans to fit their busy schedule. Students may choose from the 10, 12, 15 or 20-meal traditional plans. Cooperative housing is where students live and work together to promote friendship, leadership, and life skills. Cooperative houses have between 14 and 60 members which share responsibilities such as cleaning and preparing meals to maintain a comfortable and affordable living environment. Cooperative housing has 12 houses in which 7 for women and 5 for men.
