This program prepares students for careers in research and teaching, often at a university, federal or state agency, or private research institution. Students develop research and teaching skills in epidemiology through coursework and practice opportunities. The doctoral program includes coursework, preliminary doctoral examinations, and doctoral research.

EPID 705: Introduction to Logic and Probability Logic in Epidemiology, EPID 710: Fundamentals of Epidemiology (approved alternative for clinicians is EPID 711), BIOS 600: Principles of Statistical Inference (approved alternatives: BIOS 550, or BIOS 541 for those enrolled in the Clinical Scholars Curriculum), BIOS 545: Principles of Experimental Analysis (approved alternatives: BIOS 551, or BIOS 542 for those enrolled in the Clinical Scholars Curriculum), EPID 715: Theory and Quantitative Methods in Epidemiology, EPID 718: Epidemiologic Analysis of Binary Data, EPID 722: Epidemiologic Analysis of Time-to-Event Data, EPID 725: Research Planning Workshop, EPID 726: Epidemiologic Research Methods, EPID 994: Dissertation (Minimum of 6 credit hours).

Applicant must have a bachelor's degree (based on a four-year curriculum) completed before graduate study begins or its international equivalent with an accredited institution an average grade of B (cumulative GPA 3.0) or better. Along with these minimal requirements, admission decisions are based on a number of factors, including academic degrees and record, written statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, test scores, and relevant work experience. For international student must submit acceptable, TOEFL scores.
