The program, industrial hygiene, also called occupational hygiene, focuses on the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of workplace factors that may impact the health of workers, or members of the community. The air environment, both indoors and in the community, shares a closely related scientific base. The University of Texas School of Public Health has maintained a curriculum in Industrial Hygiene and Air Environment (IHAE) for over twenty-five years, with emphases in qualitative, statistical, and analytical aspects of exposure assessment.

Students must obtain a master's degree with a strong background in other or related disciplines from an accredited institution. They should have a satisfactory academic standing as an undergraduate: "B" (3.0 GPA) average or better in the undergraduate major, and in courses prerequisite to the proposed graduate study. They should have completed the GRE, TOEFL, IELTS, or SAT verbal examination.
