This program includes education, applied research, and technology development in the areas of: Machine Design - Including product design and development; Thermodynamics - Including power plant and engine design, and heating, ventilating, and air conditioning; Fluid mechanics - Including fluid flow and pipeline design; Dynamics - Including mechanical systems analysis; Instrumentation and hands-on laboratories. The first two years in the Mechanical Engineering Technology program emphasize engineering fundamentals. Students concentrate on mathematics, science, written and oral communication skills, and mechanical specialization classes including computer aided drafting, statics, mechanisms, manufacturing processes and engineering materials. The third and fourth years emphasize design and analysis with advanced classes in thermodynamics, heating / ventilation / air conditioning, strength of materials, machine design, fluid mechanics and senior design project. Mechanical Engineering Technology Graduates design, build, test and maintain a wide variety of machines, cars, jet fighters, and other high-tech devices and systems. The typical job titles of graduates: Computer-aided designer, Plant maintenance or production supervisor, Manufacturing or quality control engineer, Product and materials testing technologist, Applications engineer.

The modules are: PHYS 3900 (Senior Project), PHYS 4140 (Nuclear Physics), PHYS 4232 (Electromagnetic Theory II), PHYS 4242 (Quantum Mechanics II), PHYS 4271 (Waves and Optics), PHYS 4281 (Advanced Laboratory in Modern Optics).

Students should have graduated from an approved or accredited high school or have earned a high school equivalency certificate or G.E.D. The high school course units should include the following: 4 units in English, emphasizing grammar, composition and literature; 4 units in mathematics, including Algebra I, Algebra II and geometry, and a higher level mathematics course for which Algebra II is a prerequisite; 2 units in social studies, including one unit in U.S. history; and 3 units in science, including at least one unit in a life or biological science (e.g., biology), at least one unit in a physical science (e.g., chemistry, physics, physical science), and at least one laboratory course; and 2 units of the same foreign language. A minimum score of 180 on the new computer based TOEFL or a minimum score of 75% on the MELAB is required for admission. Students entering this program must have an approved A.A.S. from a community or technical college.
