The College of Management evolved from the University's degree programs in industrial engineering, which in the 1930's combined technology, business, law, economics, and management to benefit managers and administrators of utilities and manufacturing facilities, primarily Detroit's automobile companies and their suppliers. In the aftermath of the Great Depression in 1939, as financial conditions improved, Lawrence Tech consolidated much of its business and management course work, transferring it from the College of Engineering to a newly formed College of Business Administration. Several hundred students were pursuing degrees by the start of World War II. Throughout the war, the College experienced many changes. As enrollment grew, Lawrence Tech's programs in industrial management, economics, and business administration were led by Edwin O. Graeffe, a talented, Belgium-born, German-educated professor whose early career as an import-exporter had given him a unique global perspective on business operations. The College of Management took its current name in the early 1980s, and in 1988 launched the first MBA program. Today the College continues the tradition of offering programs that meet the evolving needs of students and the professions they serve. Academic programs offered by the College of Management are fully accredited by these accreditation agencies: North Central Association of Schools and Colleges; International Assembly of Collegiate Business Education; and Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs

Lawrence Tech provides housing so much more than a room in which to sleep and study. All accepted students are eligible to live on campus, and freshmen are particularly encouraged to do so as planned activities and first-year student initiatives ease the transition from high school to university. It has two co-ed residence halls: University Housing-North and University Housing-South. Each features one and two bedroom apartment style suites that accommodate two to four students, depending on the size of the suite. Single rooms are available in University Housing-South. Room costs vary by residence hall and whether they select single, double, or multiple occupancy. Both buildings provide (at no extra cost). Some of the facilities are as follows: Lounges in which they can watch television, study, or socialize with friends; Wireless Internet access, email, and access to the University network; Basic cable television service; Individual telephone lines and voicemail; all utilities (heat, air conditioning, water, electricity, and gas).
