This program is intended for experienced educational leaders in K-12 schools – such as principals, curriculum coordinators, assistant superintendents, superintendents and other school leaders – holding a professional job in the field and interested in improving their practice and advancing in their career.

Program Core (15 credits): EDU 415 Decision Making for Educational Leaders I; ED 432 Professional Writing and Communication; EDU 413 Contemporary Issues in Educational Policy; EDU 416 Decision Making for Educational Leaders II [EDU415] OR ED 521 Advanced Program Evaluation [EDU420]. Choose another advanced course in educational leadership or related fields (ED 432 and EDU 413 could also be substituted with another advanced course with the advice and consent of the advisor). Electives (12 credits): Choose electives for a total of 12 credit hours.

Applicants must have received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent by the time they enter the program at Warner, with the exception of those applying to early admission programs. Applicants must have the ability to do graduate work at the University of Rochester, as demonstrated by their past academic performance and their academic writing skills. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient communication and interpersonal skills to perform well in their chosen career in education. Applicants’ career goals, professional interests, academic background, attitudes and philosophy must be consistent with the programs offered by the Warner School and its stated mission. In addition applicants have: Approved transfer of 36 credits of prior graduate coursework; Documented professional experience in the same field of specialization; Holding a professional job that can give access to a research site for the dissertation; Career goals that are consistent to what the accelerated program prepares for (that is, advancing and taking leadership responsibilities in one’s current career and/or in the preparation of practitioners in the same area of specialization – not preparing for an academic career); Capacity and commitment to sustain the program’s intense pace.
