This program is intended for experienced practitioners in higher education administration – such as student affairs personnel, admissions or development officers holding a professional job in the field and interested in improving their practice and advancing in their career.

Program Core (18 credits) : EDU 515 Decision-Making for Educational Leaders I; EDU 516 Decision-Making for Educational Leaders II [EDU 515] OR ED 521 Advanced Program Evaluation [EDU 420]. Choose four out of the following foundations of higher education courses: EDU 496 Fiscal Policy Issues in Higher Education; EDU 490 Higher Education Law; EDU 493 History of Higher Education; EDU484 Curriculum in Higher Education; EDU 492 Governance, Policy and Administration of Higher Education; ED 475 Leadership and Management in Higher Education; ED 488 Women, Educational Leadership, and the Professions.

Applicants must have received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent by the time they enter the program at Warner, with the exception of those applying to early admission programs. Applicants must have the ability to do graduate work at the University of Rochester, as demonstrated by their past academic performance and their academic writing skills. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient communication and interpersonal skills to perform well in their chosen career in education. Applicants’ career goals, professional interests, academic background, attitudes and philosophy must be consistent with the programs offered by the Warner School and its stated mission. In addition applicants have: Approved transfer of 36 credits of prior graduate coursework; Documented professional experience in the same field of specialization; Holding a professional job that can give access to a research site for the dissertation; Career goals that are consistent to what the accelerated program prepares for (that is, advancing and taking leadership responsibilities in one’s current career and/or in the preparation of practitioners in the same area of specialization – not preparing for an academic career); Capacity and commitment to sustain the program’s intense pace.
