This program is designed to help students develop the knowledge, skills, dispositions, and experiences to become a licensed principal. The curriculum is focused on preparing them to: Understand and manage complex educational issues; Assess, improve, and provide quality instructional programs; Recruit, hire, and retain school personnel committed to improving student learning; Create a shared strategic vision; Encourage and inspire students, teachers, staff members, families, and the community to work together to provide a safe and secure learning environment. This unique scholar-practitioner program, grounded in current research, provides students with opportunities to respond to authentic case studies, participate in school leadership experiences, work side-by-side with principal mentors, and develop the ability to impact social change. This program requires two three-day residencies.

Applicants must have: A master’s degree in a discipline or field related to the program/specialization for which application is made, from a U.S. school accredited by a regional, professional/specialized, or national accrediting organization recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or from an appropriately accredited non-U.S. institution; Three years of professional/academic experience related to the program for which application is made (preferred); Names of and contact information for two persons qualified to comment knowledgeably on the applicant’s skills and professional and/or academic qualifications for study in the intended field.
