स्थानबारे जानकारी
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Columbia University, located in the Casa Hispanica at 612 West 116th Street in New York, has long enjoyed an international reputation as a center for Hispanic and Lusophone studies. In addition to providing students with a commanding linguistic preparation in Spanish, Portuguese, and Catalan, the department offers a flexible and varied undergraduate program that enables them to study the cultural manifestations of the Hispanic and Lusophone worlds in a variety of cultural contexts: the Iberian Peninsula, Latin America, the former colonies of Portugal, and the United States. Similarly, the aim of the department's graduate program is to train students to become first-rate scholars and teachers who are theoretically sophisticated and attuned to the issues, polemics, and approaches that define the profession currently as a field of intellectual endeavor. The department also hosts the Hispanic Institute at Columbia University. Founded in 1920 as the Instituto de las Espanas, the Hispanic Institute's central aim is to sponsor and disseminate research on Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian culture. The Institute has also published since 1934 the Revista Hispanica Moderna, a distinguished journal in the field of Hispanic criticism and theory.

आवास सम्बन्धी विस्तृत जानकारी
Columbia University Housing Services provide housing facilities for approximately 5,200 undergraduate students. 94 percent of all undergraduates and 99 percent of all first-year students live in residence halls. There are 17 undergraduate residence halls and 16 brownstones (which house 10 fraternities, 3 sororities, and 3 special interest communities) located on and around the Morningside campus. In addition, they also provide summer, conference, and guest accommodations. All first-year students are housed on South Lawn, the heart of undergraduate life at Columbia. Proximity to Butler Library, Alfred Lerner Hall, John Jay Dining Hall, Health Services, and the First Year/Sophomore Academic Advising Center make these residence halls convenient and have a connection to the Columbia community. Four different housing options are available to first years: Carman, Furnald, John Jay, and the all-class integrated Living Learning Center in Wallach and Hartley. Each hall has a unique set of features and benefits, from singles to corridor-style living. Room Selection for current students is an active process with many choices and options, including, but not limited to, living with friends in a suite or living alone in a single, air-conditioned room on a corridor. Laundry View is an Internet application that allows students to monitor the status of washers and dryers in connected laundry rooms through a Web browser. Laundry View was developed in response to requests for greater control over laundry activities. Since many people tend to do their laundry during similar time periods, it results in busy laundry rooms. The details of the Residence Halls can be found in the website given below http://www.columbia.edu/cu/housing/docs/residence-halls/index.html. For general inquiries about the housing students can mail to housing@columbia.edu.
