This program is designed to help prepare outstanding undergraduate majors for graduate study in Social Psychology or a career in medical Social Psychology. The program promotes independent thinking, and under faculty supervision, students will be exposed to a wide range of sociological perspectives and research areas.

Students must have secondary school evaluation report, official high school or college transcripts, a minimum ACT score of 20 or a minimum SAT combined score of 950 (critical thinking + math), a minimum TOEFL score (UAB code 1856) of 500 on the written examination, or a score of 173 on the computer-based version, or 61 on the Internet-based version or IELTS score of 5.5 overall bandwith with no less than a 5.0 on any module for international students whose native language is not English. Students entering this program must complete the required Social Psychology courses including Introduction to Social Psychology, Theory, Research Methods and Statistics (by the end of the fall term of the year the student enters the honor's program); have an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above; a junior or senior level standing (admittance to Honors Program must take place before August 1); and a cumulative GPA in Sociology courses of 3.3 or above.

This department fosters a creative and supportive interdisciplinary environment that provides quality graduate and undergraduate training, original research advancing knowledge, promoting health and social justice, and service to the discipline, community, state, nation and world. The focus of instruction at the graduate level is the sociology of health and medicine. Students are trained broadly in theory and methods, but the primary goal is to train medical sociologists. It also encourages an interdisciplinary approach and seek to maintains its partnerships with the Schools of Medicine and Public Health, and campus interdisciplinary research centers.

This university's residence halls are a short stroll to campus meetings, fitness facilities, theaters, and UAB athletic events. The resident's backyard will be filled with coffeehouses, restaurants, clubs, parks, and job opportunities just streets away; they will also be just minutes from museums, malls, professional sports, and much more. In the Coed Hall each apartment/suite is assigned to a single gender, but men's and women's apartments may share the same floor, men and women cannot share rooms. Rooms in Blazer, Blount, Camp, Denman, and Rast halls feature high-speed Internet connections, known as ResNet, the connections allow the residents to simply plug in their computer and enjoy internet access that's always on. Computer labs in Camp, Denman, and Rast halls are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. PCs feature internet access and are hooked to printers (students must provide their own paper). Residents can decorate their apartment or individual rooms with curtains and other accessories. Visitors are welcome 24 hours a day, and overnight guests are permitted if all roommates agree. Each resident has four overnight guest privileges within a 30-day period. Pets are not permitted in the residence halls with the exception of animals necessary for students with disabilities. Students with a disability that requires the assistance of an animal must be registered with the Office of Disability Support Services. Those who require special accommodations should contact the business officer/assignment coordinator for Student Housing and Residential Life at +1 205 934 2092 prior to any hall assignment and register with UAB Disability Support Services at +1 205 934 4205.
