This program jointly offers Cornell Law School and the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell will offer a program for combining law school education with graduate management training. Students receive both the J.D. and Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degrees in three years, rather than four and the normal five years. In this program, first year is spent entirely in the law school, resulting in 32 credits. The first-year summer and the second year are spent entirely in the business school, except for taking Business Organization (4 credits) and Federal Income Taxation (4 credits) at the law school in either order during the fall and spring semester, totaling approximately 18 credits for the summer and 30 credits for the year. Eventually the student must take 20 credits of core courses and 25 credits of elective courses at the business school. For residency requirements, five credits of those business courses in both the fall and spring semesters must be in courses cross-listed at the law school. Third year is spent mainly in the law school, although the student should take one course in the business school each semester, resulting in a total of at least 30 credits for the year. The student must take all of the required upperclass law courses during this year. The student graduates with his or her entering law school class, as well as with his or her entering business school class. All courses for credit must be taken at either the law school or the business school.

Students seeking admission must have completed a bachelors’ degree. International students must take the GRE exam. Students whose native language is not English must take the TOEFL and have the official score reported to Cornell from the Educational Testing Service (ETS). Educational Testing Service provided a new Internet-based Test (iBT) version of the TOEFL. This new version will test all four language skills important for effective communication: writing, listening, reading, and speaking. Each section has its own score, and the Graduate School has set the following minimum scores for admissions: Writing: 20; Listening: 15; Reading: 20; Speaking: 22. Students will continue to accept scores for computer based (cBT) (213 minimum) and paper based (550 minimum) versions of the TOEFL that were taken within two years of the date.
