This program aims to provide training in quantitative approaches to problems in biology and biomedical sciences, based on the methods of the physical and mathematical sciences. It will provide opportunities for the conceptual, methodological and practical foundations needed for research careers in modern biophysics, structural biology and biomathematics. Modern research in biomedical sciences is inherently multidisciplinary because it attempts to integrate the investigation of biological systems with rigorous approaches of chemistry, physics, and mathematics. The biomedical fields of biophysics, structural biology and biomathematics position themselves at the leading edge of quantitative and rigorous investigations. It aims to provide trainees with the conceptual, methodological, and practical foundations needed for research careers in modern biophysics, structural biology, and biomathematics. It provides outstanding opportunities to select current biological problems and trains students to design and execute a research plan to explore the molecular, structural, and dynamic properties of the system quantitatively using modern approaches in biophysics, structural biology and biomathematics.

The modules are Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Cell and Developmental Biology, Physiology and Biochemistry, Introduction to Methods in Theoretical Biophysics, Biophysics I, Biophysics II, Introduction to Bioinformatics, Introduction Computer Modeling and Macromolecules, Selected Advanced Course Work and selected electives.

Students must submit application form and by submitting the research-oriented MD/PhD online application form. They must have had research experience and should have taken advanced courses in science (e.g., physical chemistry, genetics, biochemistry). The MD/PhD application form is the only written material which must be submitted in addition to the application materials to the Medical School. They must submit 3 letters of recommendation from research advisors and GRE scores. Based on the application materials, a group of highly qualified applicants will be selected for interview.
