In this program, students are admitted to the curriculum and teaching major through the K-12 licensure program, UO Teach, which emphasizes critical teaching, cultural awareness, and strong preparation in subject matter. Completion of the program leads to a teaching license and a master of education degree (M.Ed.) in curriculum and teaching. The middle school-high school specialization prepares students for licensure in only the following subject areas: language arts, social studies, basic and advanced mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, integrated science, and a number of second languages, including Spanish, French and German. It includes embedded preparation in English for speakers of other languages (ESOL). Upon successful completion of this program, students will results in a teaching license in early childhood/elementary or middle school/high school with preparation for an ESOL endorsement.

Students must be a graduate of an accredited four-year college or university with a GPA of 3.00. Students must have the evidence of strong academic skills, strong written and oral communication skills. Students must have a passing score of 41 on CBEST (reading, writing and math) (a minimum score of 41 is required in each of the three sections, however, a section score as low as 37 is acceptable if the total scaled score is at least 123) or PPST reading passing score is 174; PPST writing passing score is 171; PPST math passing score is 175. Students must have a passing score on Sciences: ORELA biology - 220; ORELA chemistry - 220; ORELA physics - 232; praxis II integrated science content knowledge - 146. Language Arts: ORELA English language arts - 236. Mathematics: ORELA mathematics (advanced) and ORELA middle grades mathematics (basic) (allowed to teach through algebra I) - 225. Social Studies: ORELA social science - 237. Second Languages: praxis II French world language - 162; Praxis II German world language - 163; ORELA Spanish - 226. Students must have a minimum Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 575 on the paper-based test or minimum IELTS (academic module) overall band score of 7.0.
