This program is designed to meet the growing demand for trained reading specialists by providing competency-based courses that fulfill the requirements for a Virginia Endorsement. The Reading Specialist courses offer a balanced perspective on teaching reading - preparing teachers in the areas of supervision, communication skills, technology, reading assessment, instruction, curriculum and research. Students may earn the Reading Specialist Endorsement through the Individualized Degree Plan or through our K-12 Special Education Program.

Students should hold a master’s degree from an accredited institution for all CAGS, specialist, and doctoral applicants. International students should have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 233 computer based and 90 internet based.
