Students will become part of a close-knit community of faculty who are tackling the tricky, messy problems that don't fit neatly inside traditional disciplines. The research, teaching and hallway discussions focus on pushing out the boundaries of materials science.

The following are the modules: Core Industry Preparation Course Requirements (6 credits), MENG 240 Management of High Tech Industries (3 cr), MENG 270 Business Fundamentals for Engineers (3cr), Departmental Core Requirements (18 credits), Mathematics and Computational Methods (2 Courses required) (6 cr), All students are required to take ONE course from EACH of the following two areas: Recommended mathematics courses: MATH 211 Applied Partial Differential Equations and Complex Variables (F), MATH 229 Mathematical Modeling (S), Or more advanced course with approval of DGS and instructor, Recommended computational courses: 0ME 229 Computational Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer (F), ME/CE 254 Finite Element Method (F), MATH 224 Scientific Computing, COMPSCI 250 Numerical Analysis, Or more advanced course with approval of DGS and instructor, MEMS Core Curriculum, Materials Science Concentration (12 cr), All students must take a total of FOUR courses from the MEMS (Materials Science) core concentrations, covering at least three of the four cores. Applicants must hold a B.S. degree or equivalent in engineering or science. In addition they must have a GPA of 3.2 from an undergraduate program in order to gain admission to the Master of Science, Ph.D. or Master of Engineering degree programs. A minimum TOEFL score of 83 on the internet-based test is also required.
