The northern studies program offers an interdisciplinary study of northern problems and policy issues. The purpose of the northern studies program is to give interested students a broader study of the northern region - its environment, peoples and problems. Students can choose the following concentrations: Individualized Study, Environmental Politics and Policy, and Northern History to complete the degree.

Applicants should hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with at least a 3.0 (B) cumulative undergraduate GPA and a 3.0 (B) GPA in the major. Equivalent accomplishments at a foreign university may be substituted. The undergraduate major should be suitable preparation for continuation of studies in the field of choice. They will be required to take the GRE or GMAT test as per the requirement of the program that they are applying. They must have TOEFL with a minimum score of 213 (computer exam), 550 (paper exam) or 79 (Internet-based exam); or IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5. A score from the TOEFL or IELTS is required and cannot be waived even though English may be the language of instruction in their educational system.
