The Graduate Program in Political Science cooperates closely with the Division of Global Affairs and with the School of Public Affairs and Administration. Related graduate study is also available in the departments of History, Economics, and Psychology, as well as selected courses in the School of Law-Newark, the School of Criminal Justice, and the Graduate School of Management. Up to 9 credits of advanced undergraduate Rutgers courses taken for graduate credit may be applied to the degree.The major concentrations are American Government and Politics and International Relations. Courses in comparative politics and political theory and philosophy are also offered. To get a more complete picture of politics and the public policy process, students are encouraged to take courses outside their concentration.

A master degree is required for Ph.D. A bachelor degree is required for Masters for admission. TOEFL scores 540 Paper-Based Test (PBT), 207 Computer-Based Test (CBT), 76 Internet-Based Test (IBT) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Overall Band score of 6.5 or higher (if applicable). Acceptable scores for all colleges except the College of Nursing are 550+ on the paper and pencil test, 213+ on the computer test, or 79+ on the Internet-based test. For College of Nursing applicants, the acceptable scores are 600+ on the paper and pencil test, 250+ on the computer test, or 100+ on the Internet-based test. Only Official GRE (or MAT) scores sent or verified by ETS will be accepted.
