This Department offers numerous programs for students that affect families and consumers internationally. Family and consumer sciences operate within the total mission of the university's land-grant function of research, instruction, and service, including cooperative extension. This program includes apparel, merchandising and design; human development and family studies; family and consumer sciences education; nutrition and hospitality management. The mission of this department is to prepare professionals equipped to enhance the general well-being of individuals, families and communities, within the context of the environments in which they are a part through teaching, research, demonstration and economic development activities.

This University houses approximately 2,400 students or about 40 per cent of the total undergraduate enrollment. The residence halls provide experience in hall government, social planning and group living. It offers rooms which are rented as doubles. In these residence halls students restricted of using refrigerators, hot plates, microwave ovens and other appliances. Members of the opposite sex are not permitted in students’ rooms (unless during Inter-room visitation) including private and basement level rooms, hallways leading to rooms, rear and side entrances, and upper and lower level lounges. Smoking is prohibited in all areas of the residence halls. Pets are not allowed in the residential campus.
