The Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management is one of the fastest growing departments at the University of Mississippi. More than 400 undergraduate students have chosen to major in the degree programs within the Nutrition and Hospitality Management as of spring 2007. Much of the increase in declared majors can be attributed to the dedicated, student-oriented faculty as well as academic programs designed to prepare professionals with a competitive edge in the exciting fields of Nutrition and Dietetics, Hospitality Management, and Food and Nutrition Services. Selected research topics addressed in the department include child nutrition, weight control, sport nutrition, nutrition epidemiology, food environment, food assistance programs, health and welfare, service management, hospitality finance, hospitality marketing, and food tourism.

Through more than 1,000 hall programs, leadership opportunities in residence hall government, or becoming a residence hall student staff member, the students living on campus have many opportunities to learn skills outside the classroom and grow personally and professionally. All rent received from students pays for housing functions such as utilities, staff salaries, furniture, supplies, repairs, renovations and new buildings. Funding opportunities are always available to individuals who would like to make contributions to upgrade and/or construct elevators, lobbies, classrooms in residence halls, or buildings. The female residence halls include Crosby, Guess, Hefley, Martin, Miller, Stewart and Residential College. The male residence halls include Brown, Deaton, Kincannon, Stockard and Residential College. The student apartments include Northgate and Village (married housing).
