This program are qualified to be specialists who: evaluate and control chemical, physical and biological hazards in business and industry, analyze individual and group safety performances, advise personnel of safety and health hazards, promote occupational safety.

The Requirements for All Degree Tracks (9-12 credit hours): HLTH 601Research Methodology in Health and Safety (3 credits), HLTH 604Research Design and Data Analysis in Health and Human Performance (3 credits). One of the following: HLTH 629Field Research Project in Health or Safety (3 credits), HLTH 699Master's Thesis (6 credits). Requirements for Occupational Safety Management Specialization (12 credit hours) 12 credit hours from this block: HLTH 605Occupational Systems Analysis (3 credits), HLTH 606Human Factors/Ergonomics in Safety Management (3 credits), HLTH 607Transportation Management (3 credits), HLTH 608Safety Legislation, Litigation, and Compliance (3 credits), HLTH 609Applied Communication in Health and Safety (3 credits), HLTH 610Safety Inspection, Assessment, and Control (3 credits), HLTH 626Supervision and Management in Health and Safety (3 credits); Departmental Electives (3-6 credits); Outside Electives (6 credits).

Students must satisfy the following minimum requirements: Hold a baccalaureate degree granted by a regionally accredited institution, with course work in the following areas: one year college-level chemistry (organic and inorganic plus lab); and one semester of college algebra, trigonometry, or calculus and also need to satisfy one of the following: Baccalaureate degree in safety management related field; or two years of professional work experience within the field (as approved by the department); or Personal proficiency recognition via certification.
