This program focuses on the design process, integrating traditional design methods with innovative, cutting-edge technologies for use in the apparel industry. Students take a sequence of studio courses with a strong visual emphasis, manipulating form, color and fabrics; they use computer aided design (CAD) methods throughout the curriculum and learn to apply design methods using a problem solving approach. They also take courses in the social, economic, and historical aspects of design.

Students must meet the following preparatory courses: 16 units, including four of English, three of mathematics (including pre-calculus), and three of science (including one of biology, and one of chemistry or physics) and also recommended: additional unit of advanced mathematics and science, and a foreign language. Students seeking admission must have the equivalent of an American high school education at the time of admission. International students whose first language is not English must have taken the TOEFL/IELTS exam. A minimum TOEFL score of 600 on the paper-based test or 100 on internet-based test and the recommended minimum IELTS score of 7 is needed to be considered for admission. They will waive the TOEFL and/or IELTS requirement for students who have achieved a score of 670 or higher on the critical reading section of the SAT reasoning test.
