The chemistry department has a noteworthy array of modern instruments, all for student use. Laboratory facilities include a Cary 50Bio UV-VIS obtained in 2002, a Varian CP 3800 GC with an autoinjector with a Saturn 2000 Ion Trap MS (2002), a Thermo Matson Satellite FT-IR (2000), an Anasazi 90-MHz FT-NMR (1999), a GC-8610 from SRI (2000), a Varian ProStar HPLC (2004), a Buck 210 VGP Atomic Absorption (2005), and a Brinkman Titrator (2000). Recently the department has purchased a Shimatzu Fluorescence spectrophotometer and a professional version of Spartan molecular modeling software. Also available to the project is the equipment maintained by the biology department, including autoactive sterilizers, tissue processors, luminometers, biophotometer, fotodyne gel documentation systems, plate reader, micro centrifuges, CO incubator, inverted microscope with fluorescence and digital camera, electrode puller, electrode polisher, electrophoresis equipment, vibratome for sectioning, microtome for sectioning, micropipettes, and a scanning electron microscope. It has five chemistry labs feature state-of-the-art equipment, students have hands-on access to high-tech instruments such as a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer and gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer; they do extensive group work.

Doane College provides housing to more than 80 percentage of students, choosing from a variety of accommodations, including apartment-style living. The residence halls provide a variety of accommodations, including apartment-style living as well as more traditional rooms. The halls are staffed with professional residence directors (RDs) and upper-class students who serve as resident assistants (RAs). Campus housing is provided in Frees Hall, Sheldon Hall, Smith Hall, Hansen Leadership Hall, and Colonial/Burrage Halls. Frees Hall was built in 1931 and is one of the college's four coed halls; students enjoy a variety of events, including movie nights, social programs, pool, ping pong, and card tournaments; it is a smoke-free environment with most rooms are double occupancy (some triple/quadruples); some rooms have private sinks; laundry facilities and vending machines available to first-year and transfer students; new additions include: air conditioning, a new gaming lounge including, a new tiered theatre room, updated bathroom facilities. The Smith Hall was built in 1929, it is the college's only all-male residence hall; it is a smoke-free environment; it has four floors of mostly double occupancy rooms; facilities include newly renovated lounge, entertainment areas feature pool equipment, large-screen television, computer lab, laundry facilities and vending machines. Burrage Hall and Colonial Hall are commonly known as "The Quads." Both residential halls consist of rooms (quads) that accommodate eight people (two in each bedroom). There are four bedrooms, a living room, and a bathroom in each quad. The majority of the Greeks consider the quads their home. The Sheldon Hall is college's female hall, opened in 1970; it is smoke-free with four floors, double occupancy rooms, sir conditioned, two lounges, computer lab, laundry facilities and vending machines; available to first-year and transfer students.
