The Department of Architecture offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in a configuration commonly know as "4+2" : four years of undergraduate study leading to a bachelor of science degree, and two years of graduate work, leading to the first professional degree, the master of architecture (M.Arch.). Please note that admission to the graduate program is not automatic for students in the undergraduate program; all students must participate in a formal graduate application process. A professional degree, as well as a specified period of internship that varies from state to state, is required by most states as a prerequisite for licensure. Licensure itself is under state jurisdiction. In addition to the core 4+2 structure, the Department offers a number of alternate tracks and degree configurations, including an undergraduate minor in architecture, a 3½-year M.Arch. for graduate students holding undergraduate or graduate degrees in a field other than architecture, a 1½-year postprofessional M.Arch. for those holding a first professional degree, and dual degree options with the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, the School of Management, and the Department of Media Study.

The University at Buffalo offers students a variety of housing options. Students have the option to live either on-campus or off-campus. The residence halls are generally reserved for first and second year undergraduate students. The on-campus apartment complexes are reserved for our third and fourth year students. They also have designated on-campus apartment complexes for graduate students. The residence halls are located on both the north and south campus. There are five residence hall facilities on the South Campus: Clement and Goodyear Halls, which are two high-rise halls connected by a service area; Pritchard, MacDonald, and Schoellkopf Halls, which are four story residences. International students choosing to live on the South Campus should choose Clement Hall or MacDonald Hall as their first choice since those are the only two South Campus Residence Halls that remains open during term breaks. The North Campus has two housing clusters: the Governors Residence Halls and the Joseph Ellicott Complex. International students choosing to live on the North Campus should choose Red Jacket Quadrange or Clinton Hall as their first choice since they are the only North Campus Residence Halls that remain open during term breaks. The rooms are furnished with a bed, mattress, desk and chair, nightstand, dresser, and a lamp for each occupant. Rooms are equipped with Ethernet data connections for personal computers. Each room is with a telephone jack and is wired for cable television reception.
