This is a research degree designed for students holding an accredited professional degree in architecture (B. Arch or M. Arch) or foreign equivalent, who seek to develop an area of specialization. This program mission is to advance design knowledge on significant issues through research and scholarship. It focuses on applied research and is intended for persons who wish to enhance their credential for teaching or to pursue advanced professional careers. Focus Areas of the program include (but are not limited to): Sustainable Environments (Building and Urban Design); Socially-Engaged Urban Housing; Civic Design (including neighborhood, community, and urban design); Advanced Visualization and Modeling (both qualitative and quantitative) Graduate Architecture.

Applicants must have a Professional architecture degree: A 5-yr Bachelor of Archi­tecture (B. Arch), Master of Architecture (M. Arch), or Doctor of Architecture (Arch D.) first professional degree, from an NAAB ac­credited program or foreign equivalent. A foreign degree must be equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor’s degree and must be accredited by its regional or national accreditation agency. A 3.00 G.P.A (on a 4.0 Scale), or equivalent is required. Candidates with a GPA less than 3.00 may be considered for con­ditional admission when evidence of exceptional promise is identi­fied. Foreign degree holders must have earned a minimum of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or other equivalent to a ‘B’ average. If students have completed previous graduate course work, they must have a grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4-point scale or equivalent. Official transcripts of all college and university level coursework, A GRE score and A TOEFL score for foreign students are required.
