The University of Louisville has helped foster the development of the visual arts in Louisville for almost 70 years. The University's original art department, founded in 1937, became the Allen R. Hite Art Institute in 1946, in recognition of the bequest of Allen R. and Marcia S. Hite. The University of Louisville, founded in 1798, is one of the oldest municipal universities in the United States. With its entry into the university system of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, in 1970, the University of Louisville began a new era of service to the region, nation and the world. The University of Louisville, with a current enrollment of 22,000 students, is Kentucky's major urban university and one of the most rapidly expanding universities in the United States.

The University of Louisville Properties (ULP) is an on-campus student community which includes Bettie Johnson Student Apartments, Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall Student Suites, Community Park Suites and Billy Minardi Hall Student Suites. ULP is endorsed by the University of Louisville and managed by Allen and O’Hara Education Services, Inc., a company specializing in student housing for over 40 years. The university has Traditional Halls: Louisville Hall, Stevenson Hall and Themed Communities. It also offers apartments for graduate students or family: Medical-Dental Apartments, University Tower Apartments. Housing is willing to help residents with their computer.
