This program is for students who have degrees or professional experience in related fields and who wish to study architecture at an advanced level, but who do not wish to pursue a professional degree. Like the Master of Science in Architecture degree, this degree offers an opportunity for specialization and advanced study, following standard degree plans, or custom tailored programs of study. Advanced Study options are Architectural Design: advanced study opportunities in design allow students to develop critical awareness and creative abilities through projects that build on personal interests and aptitude. Students selecting this option are able to create individual programs of study that draw upon resources and expertise in the College of Architecture and University. Students pursuing this area of study are expected to complete a master’s project while working with senior design faculty and consultants; Green Building Components: designing, developing and implementing environmentally-conscious building components is the mission of the Green Building Components Initiative. The proposed curriculum is interdisciplinary, drawing elements from architecture, product development, sustainability, building performance analysis, intellectual property and business planning. The proposed components are developed for potential use by the architecture, engineering and construction industries. Urban and Suburban Design Studies: Houston provides students with opportunities to investigate the problems and potentials of present and emerging patterns of urbanization and suburbanization. Projects can range from community development initiatives in low-income neighborhoods to large-scale architecture projects; designs of city segments; and speculative projects exploring new concepts for the evolving city.

Students must have earned a four-year baccalaureate degree or higher degree from an accredited college or university, equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor’s degree. International students should have a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (213 for computer-based test or 79 for internet-based test) is required for admission.
