The goal of the Department of Anthropology at SDSU is to enable students to better understand human biological and cultural diversity; across space and time-past, present, and future. The department offers a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Arts in Anthropology. Graduate students may also opt for a specific focus in Applied Anthropology. The discipline of anthropology incorporates a diverse range of theoretical and methodological approaches that draw from the social and natural sciences, as well as from the humanities. The department fully embraces this diversity of traditions by supporting an integrated subdiscipline approach that requires students to gain knowledge and training in all four subfields-cultural anthropology, physical/biological anthropology, archaeology, and linguistic anthropology. It also recognizes applied anthropology as an important component of the holistic approach. As such, students are trained in the application of anthropological principles and methodologies to address problems in the contemporary world. The department has 11 core faculty and a number of lecturers that cover the broad spectrum of anthropology. With a regional focus on the Pacific Rim, the anthropologists work locally in San Diego and southern California, as well as internationally in Mexico (Baja California, Oaxaca, and Campeche), Belize, Venezuela, the Solomon Islands, and Indonesia. One of the program’s greatest strengths is that it provides numerous opportunities for students, at both the undergraduate and graduate level, to engage in research with faculty. The students can gain research experience through annual field schools as well as through collaboration with faculty on current projects.

आवास सम्बन्धी विस्तृत जानकारी
Living on campus can be an exciting and enriching part of student’s college experience. The Office of Housing Administration has eight residence hall or apartment complexes, with a variety of living options. Residence halls are situated on the east and west sides of campus. Each residence hall contract includes local telephone service with voicemail, local cable service, and Internet connections in each room (except Aztec Corner). All halls/complexes are coed. All individual rooms, suites and apartments are same-gender. One of the goals of on-campus living is to provide ‘out-of-classroom’ experiences to help students succeed both academically and socially. This holistic approach governs the educational and social programming provided in each living area. Living communities are specifically designed to provide additional resources to residents participating in these programs. Three types of living communities are available at SDSU: Residential Learning Communities; Thematic Living Communities; Lifestyle Options. Students may select from one of these living communities or may simply make a choice of room type and residence hall location without selecting a theme or lifestyle area. Whatever their needs, SDSU has the living community for them. New first-time freshmen who have been admitted to San Diego State University are guaranteed a space in on-campus housing when a completed License Agreement is received and processed by the Office of Housing Administration. A completed License Agreement includes all required documents and the initial $800 payment.
