This program focuses on elementary student learning by improving the educator-s responsibility for that learning. Student teaching is an integral component of the Teacher Education Program. It provides students with a field-based experience at the appropriate grade and content level. Student teachers work with a cooperating teacher from a school site and with a University of Phoenix faculty advisor. The student teaching experience is designed to emphasize the achievement of state standards leading to certification and to present individuals with growth opportunities that best prepare them to assume the duties of a certified classroom teacher.

Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited, or candidate for accreditation, college or university, or a comparable degree from a recognized institution outside the United States, and a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) as shown on the undergraduate degree posted transcript. They must provide verification of a minimum of three years of significant full-time, post-high school work experience. They must be currently employed. If not currently employed, they must have access to an organizational environment that allows them to apply the concepts they learn in the courses. The Master of Arts in Education/Early Childhood Education program requires that work experience includes nine months of instructional experience in a P-12 setting. The Master of Arts in Education/Administration and Supervision program requires that work experience includes 18 months of instructional experience in a P-12 setting. No previous instructional experience is required for Master of Arts in Education programs in Curriculum and Instruction, Adult Education and Training, Elementary Teacher Education, and Secondary Teacher Education. They must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or hold an approved, valid visa if attending a campus located in the United States. They must complete all required forms for admission and submit an official undergraduate degree posted transcript. They must pass with the following minimum scores: 79 (internet based test-IBT) and 213 in all other tests of TOEFL, 750 in TOEIC, 6.5 in IELTS and 550 in Berlitz English Language Proficiency exam.
