This program encourages students to work one-on-one with their graduate advisor, their peers and other professors. An options available within this emphasis is option I (thesis), is designed to prepare students for a doctoral program, for advanced professional careers, or for students wanting to complete an in-depth research experience. Students must complete at least nine semester hours for each fall and spring semester to maintain their student status.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with a grade-point average of at least a 2.7 on a 4.0 scale. They must have completed 24 hours undergraduate level English coursework beyond freshman level (including one course in linguistics, modern grammar or the history of the English language and one upper division Wright course. Applicants must also demonstrate their English language proficiency by obtaining a minimum score of 550/79 in TOEFL; and an overall band of 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.5 in each band in IELTS.
