The Department of History is one of the largest and most important units within the School of Liberal Arts. As the mother of all liberal arts disciplines, History brings together scholars who range across the humanities and social sciences and whose work touches upon disciplines across the university, including art, architecture, anthropology, economics, environmental studies, literature, philosophy, political science, and sociology.

Housing and Residence Life offers a variety of housing options including theme halls, single rooms, double rooms, studios, apartments, and more. Each residence hall or apartment has unique characteristics and amenities, which allows students to choose the housing option that best suits them. Graduate students and their family members are able to apply for housing at the Papillon apartments in the Lower Garden District or at Deming Pavilion downtown. Deming Pavilion is not operated by the Department of Housing and Residence Life on the uptown campus. All residence hall rooms contain one bed per resident, one desk per resident and one desk chair per resident. In addition, depending on the residence hall, the rooms may also include some type of bookcase (or wall shelving unit), some type of small dresser per student (or a large dresser to share). Housing and Residence Life is responsible for move-able furniture inside a student's room while Facilities Services is responsible for built-in furniture or furniture attached to the wall.
