This program promotes a community of scholars dedicated to excellence in teaching, professional and community service, and research. It is designed for teachers seeking to strengthen their history content, for students planning their professional careers with a background in history, for individuals seeking career advancement or personal enrichment, and for students preparing for doctoral programs. Foreign service officers, business executives, journalists, lawyers, librarians, archivists, and museum curators have majored in history as undergraduates. History also makes an exciting teaching career. In our society of dramatic change, most people change careers numerous times during their lifetime. Historical imagination and research skills provide students with a variety of options as jobs and technology change. The problem-solving skills developed from close readings of texts and documents are valuable for any career. The ability to define, research, and interpret a subject are skills needed in education, business, and government. Students learn to weigh the choices of their own profession through historical speculation of "what might have been." Those who learn to understand the clockwork of the past, can use this knowledge in planning for the future.

Admission requirements are have at least a 2.75 cumulative grade point average. Alternative: Applicants with a cumulative grade point average between 2.50 and 2.74 are eligible to use a composite score of 21 on the ACT or a combined score of 1000 on the Critical Reading and Mathematics sections of the SAT Reasoning Exam to replace the grade point average requirement. Submit SAT Reasoning or ACT scores which include a standardized writing examination. Applicants with a 2.75 cumulative grade point average who graduated prior to 2006 are exempt from the ACT or SAT Reasoning scores requirement. Have an Official transcripts or records of previous school work. All non-native English speaking students must provide proof of proficiency in the English language
