Facts: Giving USA, the industry standard published by the Giving USA Foundation and researched and written by the Center, is the first and only annual, comprehensive look at who gives, how much, and to whom. It provides trend information and benchmarks that donors, nonprofit managers, policy makers, and others can use to address areas of concern. The Center’s Nonprofit Overhead Cost Study, completed in conjunction with the Urban Institute, enables donors, nonprofit practitioners, policy makers, and accounting professionals to understand and improve nonprofit cost reporting and management expenses. The semiannual Philanthropic Giving Index developed by the Center allows nonprofit fundraisers and CEOs to assess the current and future climate for giving to organizations like their own. A leading national resource for the media and public officials for information on charitable giving in the wake of disasters, the Center has conducted research on giving in response to the September 11 attacks, the 2004 Asian tsunami, and the 2005 U.S. Gulf Coast hurricanes. The results help donors give more effectively and let nonrelief nonprofits know what to expect.
