This program will provide students with a foundation of knowledge on what is known about autism and how to help individuals with the disorder. The methods they learn will broaden their instructional repertoire and will apply to many individuals beyond those on the autism spectrum. Course work covers the understanding of autism, methods of teaching individuals with autism, high-functioning autism and Asperger syndrome, social competency and applied behavior analysis, plus learning theory, instructional leadership, instructional technology and research. This degree program will prepare students for work in education or in other related professions such as therapy, social work, health care, mental health and rehabilitation.

The students should have a baccalaureate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework, a competitive Graduate Record Examination (GRE) combined scores of 900 or better in Verbal and Quantitative sections, official transcripts, two letters of reference and for international students TOEFL score of at least 600 for paper-based test or 250 for computer -based test or 100 for internet based.
