This department seeks to graduate teachers who critically analyze educational practices in light of their benefit to learners in diverse community; and to promote an understanding of global issues in education in an international context via bicultural and bi-national focus. Through field-based professional development school models, the department prepare teachers who: Demonstrate the pedagogical and content knowledge, skills, and dispositions that help all students learn; Design learning environments that are infused with educational analysis and critique in the context of culture, community, power and knowledge; Understand the social, political and historical implications of diverse educational models; and Lead to improved educational programs in the communities they serve.

Students who wish to stay on-campus reside at a housing complex known as Miner Village. However, student must register online and create an account to apply for housing. Students are requested do this early as housing fills quickly. Miner Village's 12 apartment-style residence halls, with 218 apartments and a capacity for 436 students, offers several floor plans, from cozy efficiencies to two- and four-bedroom units. There's also Summit Hall, the Miner Village Community Building, which houses study rooms, a recreation area, private mailboxes and administrative offices. The residence halls in Miner Village are all co-educational. Miner Village provides continuous stay for three, nine, and twelve months.
