This dual program can be combined for a total of 53 credit hours rather than the 66 credit hours required for the two degrees taken separately. No thesis is required for students earning an M.A. degree in history who are also earning a Masters in Library Science under this dual degree program. However, they must satisfy the foreign language proficiency admission requirement. No area of concentration is required, but students wishing to focus on public history for the M.A. in history must also include History H542 among the required 23 credit hours of history course work. Such students may, if they wish, do a public history internship and count a maximum of two credit hours of H543 toward the degree (students may enroll in H543 only after having taken or while taking H542). The remaining 30 credit hours are library science courses.

This program module includes completion of SLIS M.L.S. Foundation courses (15 credit hours minimum): S504 or S503 - 3 credits, S501 - 3 credits, S551 or S552 in either academic librarianship or special librarianship, S502 - 3 credits, S506 or S505 - 3 credits, completion of six credits from SLIS in library history and literature from the following: S582 Preservation - 3 credits, S580 History of Libraries - 3 credits, S680 The Book to 1450 - 3 credits, S681 The Book 1450 to Present - 3 credits, S623 Genealogy and Local History- 3 credits, S521 Humanities Information - 3 credits, S522 Social Science Information - 3 credits, completion of nine credits from SLIS in information technologies from the following: S554 Library Systems - 3 credits, S556 Systems Analysis and Design - 3 credits, S541 Information Policy - 3 credits, S652 Digital Libraries - 3 credits, S533 Online Searching - 3 credits, S532 Information Architecture for the Web - 3 credits, S605 Internship in Library and Information Science - 3 credits.

Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree (equivalent to U.S) with a minimum 16 years of primary plus secondary plus tertiary education and have earned a university first degree, or have completed a university first degree that grants eligibility for graduate study in a recognized university in that same country, a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent in the total undergraduate program, or an average of 3.2 in the latest graduate degree or representative graduate hours completed with GMAT score of 31 in each area and minimum GRE score of 500 on verbal and quantitative and 4.5 on analytical International applicants must have a minimum TOEFL score of 600 (paper-based version), 250 (computer-based version), total score 100 (Internet-based version) or an IELTS score of 6.0 or successful completion of ELS Language Centers Intensive Program Level 112. Students from Japan must have a "Pre-First Grade" score on the STEP Eiken. Admission to each of the two masters programs is approved separately on the same basis as for other applicants not in the dual program.
