The Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance program provides the mature student with advanced vocal training and academic study in preparation for eclectic careers as both professional performers and teachers. The core of this training program is intensive private vocal study, private coaching, languages, lyric diction including comparative diction, invigorating academic classes, the graduate vocal seminar, and opportunities for solo performances in recitals as well as on choral and orchestra concerts. The graduate vocal seminar focuses on preparing pre-professional singers for auditioning for young artist programs, operas, and oratorio concerts, as well as putting on two graduate recitals per year.

The following are the modules: Major Area Credits: AVO 999 Private Voice Instruction 4, 4, 4, 4 (four semesters); ACO 888 Vocal Coaching 2; REC 560, 561 (two recitals) 0; Total credits-major area 18; Other Studies: HLM 615 Pro-seminar in Music History 2 3; HLM 522 Vocal Literature 4; Total credits-other studies 7; Electives (with approval of advisor) 3 11.

Applicants are expected to have received a bachelor’s degree in music or its equivalent from an accredited college/university. This includes but is not limited to Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of Arts, or Bachelor of Science. Candidates must demonstrate background and preparation that will contribute to probable success in the chosen curriculum. The minimum TOEFL scores expected are: GPD, and AD: 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, or 79-80 internet-based. The minimum IELTS scores expected are: 6.5 or above on the academic test.
