The is a joint degree with the University of North Texas (UNT) and Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center - in Turrialba, Costa Rica. Courses will be taken by cohorts of students. The first 18 credits of the program (first year) will be taken at the University of North Texas and the second 18 credits of the program (second year) will be taken at CATIE in Costa Rica. Students must pass a written comprehensive exam upon completion of all course work. It educates graduate students for management and leadership in the international sustainable tourism industry. Students receive one degree with both institutions' credentials, thus allowing the evaluation of sustainable tourism through each institution's strengths of scientific, policy, and operational perspectives of hospitality management.

Students must have graduated from an accredited high school and strongly recommend that students take the following classes in high school. Students should have a strong ‘B’ average and have completed three units of English and two units each of solid mathematics, social science and natural science. Students should have a minimum combined SAT (combined critical reading/verbal and math) score of 1180 or ACT composite of 26. International students should have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 79 (Internet-based), score of 550 (Paper-based) and score of 213 (Computer-based) and a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall band and also should have minimum MELAB (official version) score of 80 or higher.
