This program is designed for persons who show promise of becoming researchers and leaders in state, national, and international mathematics education communities. The program prepares researchers and leaders to address critical questions about mathematics education. Students will have opportunities to develop analytical perspectives on current issues in mathematics education.

Students are required to complete their bachelor’s degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree, as well as high scholastic standing and suitable preparation for the intended field of study. Students should have obtained a grade point average of 3.0 or above. Students whose first language is not English and who are admitted to Michigan State University with regular admission must meet one of the following language proficiency requirements. They should have also obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 80 on internet based test (with no sub score below 19 for reading, listening, and speaking; no writing sub score below 22) and 550 on paper based test (with no sub score below 52). An IELTS score of 6.5 or higher is also required. An average score of at least 80 to 85 with no subs score below 80 is required for Michigan State University English Language Test (MSUELT) and an average score of 83 or higher (with no sub score below 80) is required for Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB).
