This program was created in 1995 to enhance the preparation and confidence of its students to be successful in a medical curriculum. This unique opportunity is for students from especially disadvantaged backgrounds. Students aspiring to careers in medicine at times require additional skill-building experience and an enhanced knowledge of learning strategies. All admitted students are required to complete an intensive summer Medical College Admission Test Preparation Program offered at Indiana University School of Medicine before starting the graduate MSMS curriculum in the fall semester.

Applicants must have completed a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the United States or an equivalent international institution by date of matriculation with a minimum cumulative and science GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and Medical College Admission Test minimum total score of 18 with at least a sub score of 6 on the physical Sciences, verbal reasoning, and biological sciences sections of the test. In addition, applicants must have completed all premedical science requirements (one year of general biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics with laboratory components). International applicants must have a permanent resident visa and a minimum TOEFL score of 550(paper-based version), 213 (computer-based version), 79 (Internet-based version) or an IELTS score of 6.0 or successful completion of ELS Language Centers Intensive Program Level 112. Students from Japan must have a "Pre-First Grade" score on the STEP Eiken. After being admitted, students may require to take one or more supplemental EAP courses to develop additional language proficiency if TOEFL scores are below 80 (iBT), 550 (PBT) or 213 (CBT) in IUPUI EAP placement test.
