The purpose of a thesis is to give the student experience in carrying out the kind of research he or she may expect to do throughout a professional career. A thesis involves a significant amount of investigation of the literature. It may involve a re-examination or re-evaluation of information generated by others in an effort to confirm or review their conclusions. It may also involve generating new knowledge through original research. In any event, it is intended to demonstrate ability to work independently on a problem, wide familiarity with the literature in the field of the program, command of the techniques and the principles of research, and ability to form valid generalizations from the data used.

To qualify for admission as a graduate student, a student must have a four-year United States bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, and must meet the admission requirements of the academic program to which they intend to apply. Enrollment Requirements. If the student intend to study on Northern Arizona's main campus, they must be enrolled for 9 hours of course work each fall and spring term. Of these 9 hours, 6 hours must be in face-to-face courses. They cannot enroll in more than 3 hours of online coursework in a term. If the student intend to enroll in an online program that they will pursue from your home country, the above requirements do not apply. Most graduate programs have an additional application form and require that additional materials (such as GRE scores, letters of recommendation, goal statement) be submitted directly to the department. They should contact your intended department of study to obtain their application requirements.
