This program is delivered in a completely online format and is designed to prepare RNs for the advanced practice role of clinical nurse specialist (CNS), equipping them with the skills of nursing education. The CNS-Ed is prepared to provide a professional leadership role in the design and implementation of strategies to improve patient and organizational outcomes and to reach nursing students in both the didactic and clinical settings.

Students are required to complete their bachelor’s degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree, as well as high scholastic standing and suitable preparation for the intended field of study. Students should have obtained a grade point average of 3.0 or above. Students whose first language is not English and who are admitted to Michigan State University with regular admission must meet one of the following language proficiency requirements. They should have also obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 80 on internet based test (with no sub score below 19 for reading, listening, and speaking; no writing sub score below 22) and 550 on paper based test (with no sub score below 52). An IELTS score of 6.5 or higher is also required. An average score of at least 80 to 85 with no subs score below 80 is required for Michigan State University English Language Test (MSUELT) and an average score of 83 or higher (with no sub score below 80) is required for Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB).
