The College of Nursing and Health Sciences offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in nursing and health sciences. Located on the Hawai'i Loa campus in Kane'ohe, Hawaii, It is the largest program offering a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in the State of Hawaii with over 1600 undergraduate and graduate students. New Bachelor of Science in Health Science (BSHS) has a focus on public and community health. Despite large size, take pride in offering small classes and individualized attention to students. The need for skilled nurses is accelerating as the proportion of the population age 60 and older expands.The national nursing shortage, currently estimated at more than 200,000 positions, is expected to quadruple by 2020. Talented nursing professionals are needed and valued by the community, in Hawai‘i, the nation, and around the globe. The nursing shortage and diminishing supply of nurse educators are just two among the many challenges contributing to the perfect storm in health care. Fortunately this university is well positioned to meet those challenges as they strive to remain true to the mission of the University which, in part, states “Innovative undergraduate and graduate programs anticipate the changing needs of the community and prepare graduates to live, work, and learn as active members of a global society”.

The Residence in this university is provided a supportive living-learning environment that encourages students to succeed in the classroom as well as grow as individuals outside the classroom. The on campus residence halls are rooms of double occupancy and triple occupancy. The residence halls offer both double-and triple-occupancy rooms. Each room is equipped with basic furniture, including a twin bed, desk, and closet space and/or dresser for each resident. The majority of rooms are shared suites with a semi-private bathroom. Most shared suites consist of one double occupancy room and one triple occupancy room. Each residence hall also offers a central lounge area for resident activities, group study, and programs conducted by University faculty and staff. The residence halls and residence life areas are nonsmoking areas. The Student Center and Fitness Center, also located in the Residence Life area, provide students with a centralized area for social activities, leisure time, exercise, and group study. At the Student Center, students may use computers with Internet access, a large-screen television, VCR, DVD player, ping pong table, football table, and a billiard table.
